Plante Has Four Wins
Ft. Washington, MD --- Roger Plante won four races on the Sunday night (March 25) card at Rosecroft and a change of tactics led Rock N Roll Jet to a win in the $10,000 Open Handicap.
Kim Vincent had a driving double and his decision to sprint to the top, putting Rock N Roll Jet ($10.80) on the lead, perhaps surprised the field and wagerers who normally watch him rally from off the pace. After the speedy Hickory Aloha cleared, Vincent had his charge a head in front at the quarter pole on his way to the lead in :27.2.
From there, Vincent had to hold off the charge of Rocktavious (Plante) who was parked the entire mile and then got leg weary in the final turn, briefly hooking wheels with Hickory Aloha (Timmy Offutt) and by the time Kiss A Dragon (Russell Foster) cleared that chaos, Rock N Roll Jet had the field by six lengths. Kiss A Dragon made it respectable, missing by a little more than a length. Hickory Aloha was third.
Vincent also drove Dances Cruiser ($6.40) to a win. Both horses are owned by Dawn Webb and trainer Buddy Bright.
Plante teamed with trainer Megan Roberts for a pair of wins. The first came in the opener with 13-year old Intheblinkofaneye. The son of Cole Muffler dropped in the pocket behind Extreme Machine N (Allan Davis) before the first quarter and eventually held off Mr Ham Sandwich (Foster) who had to rally three-wide off stalled cover to miss by a length in 1:54.1. Plante led Capital Builder to a second win for the Roberts barn in 1:53.2, beating Boot Leg (Frank Milby) by a head for owner Bib Roberts.
A fellow 13-year old, Real Tough, completed the old man Daily Double, cruising out of the pocket to hold off Rockin Glory (John Wagner) and pacesetter Hruby's N Luck. The latter was claimed for the second time this meet. Real Tough is owned and trained by Lauren Allen and won for the 49th time in his career. His first lifetime win came at Rosecroft on Aug. 18, 2007 in the Wayne Smullin Memorial as a 2-year old, driven by the late Brad Hanners.
Plante also scored with Doggone Slots ($4.80) for Gregg Morris and Thomas Morris Jr. and Dante Seelster ($71.00) for Clyde Oglesby Jr.
Milby, and Foster posted two wins on the card.
