Fort Washington, MD --- Sunday night's (Oct. 8) preliminary non-betting card stole the show as Cool Toy shattered the 2-year-old filly pacing record at Rosecroft Raceway, winning a division of the Maryland Sires Stakes in 1:53.2. The time broke the track record held jointly by Cambelle's Up (Roger Hammer) from 1994 and Rose Drive (Eddie Davis Jr.) in 1999.

Cool Toy sat patiently for driver Jason Green in the pocket following Princess Rusty (Art Stafford Jr.) and blasted home for the win. Green's grandfather, Clayton, and father, Clifton, had success on the Maryland circuit for several years. They teamed up with Tuggit as a star 2- and 3-year-old, while Cliff Green had MSS wins as well with Bo Jam and Old Dan in the trotting divisions.

Six minutes earlier, HS Shauna posted a new MSS mark of of 1:54.2, eclipsing the record of Bonnie Lynn (Roland Mallar) from 2001 for driver Roger Plante Jr., trainer Steve LeBlanc and owner Cary Grady.

The trotting colts and geldings opened the overnight card. Driver Brian Burton put What That Is (Cam’s Rocket) in the pocket for most of the mile, charging down the stretch to win by four lengths over Iron Mine Bro, shattering the stakes and track record in the 1:57.2 mile. Judy Welty trains for owner Brian Emerson, Richard Hans is the breeder.

Stakes action continues with the second round of preliminaries on Saturday (Oct. 14) and Sunday (Oct. 15).

This was such an interesting read — I really enjoyed how you highlighted the importance of track records and consistency over time. It’s fascinating to see how performance and history come together, especially in places like Rosecroft Raceway, which has long been known for its racing legacy and record-breaking moments . It really shows how progress is built step by step.

As a health and social care student, I’m learning to 3.1 Analyse factors that influence the capacity of an individual to express consent, and it reminds me how different factors — whether in sports or care — can shape outcomes and decision-making. Posts like this encourage a deeper appreciation for both performance and perspective — thanks for sharing!
