ENTIRE ROSECROFT RACING CARD FEATURES
100% MARYLAND PREFERENCE PARTICIPANTS
(Fort Washington, MD – December 9, 2013) For the first time an entire race card at Rosecroft Raceway featured 100% participation by Maryland based owners and trainers as well as horses bred and sired in the state.
The Saturday, December 7 card featured all 99 of the night’s participants meeting the preference criteria set up through the combined efforts of Rosecroft and Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association (CSOA.) The Maryland preference system gives entry preference to any horse owned or trained by a Maryland resident or horses bred in the state or sired by a stallion standing in the state. For the current Rosecroft fall meet over 80% of the participants, and purse earnings, have been directed to Maryland preferred horses and horsemen. Each Maryland preferred race is given a 20% purse bonus versus races of similar racing conditions.
“This past Saturday’s racing card emphasized the goal we have been trying to achieve in putting Maryland owners, horsemen and breeders front and center in reaping the benefits of participating in the Rosecroft racing program,” stated Tom Cooke, CSOA president.
Dan Myer, president of the Maryland Standardbred Breeders Association added, “with the continued upward trend in purses at Rosecroft Maryland horsemen and horses are earning more which leads to even more reinvestment within the industry. This is certainly what the legislature intended when directing a portion of gaming proceeds to the racing industry.”
Rosecroft’s live racing meet continues on Tuesday and Saturday evenings through December 21. First race is 7:25 p.m.
