Horsemen Lend Support to Fire Victims

Maryland Horsemen, Rosecroft Raceway Lending Support to Fire Victims
(Fort Washington, MD – February 16, 2013) The Cloverleaf Standardbred Owner’s Association (CSOA), Maryland Standardbred Breeders Association (MSBA) and Rosecroft Raceway have each committed funds to the Maryland Standardbred Horsemen’s Assistance Fund in order to direct assistance to those horsemen affected by the fire at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds in Woodstock, Virginia earlier this week.
The fire destroyed most of the main barn on the historic property. No human or equine lives were lost in the fire, but most of the racing equipment stored in the barns was destroyed. Many of the horsemen stabled at the Fairgrounds have been longtime competitors on the Maryland harness racing circuit.
“This is a devastating loss for those involved and it is important to help our fellow horsemen in this time of need,” said CSOA President Thomas Cooke.
“We are glad to be part of this effort to help horsemen affected by the loss and know the rest of the racing community will show their support,” added Dan Myer, MSBA President.
Rosecroft Raceway will also be the location for any equipment or supplies that fellow horsemen may want to drop off for those affected by the fire. The drop off day will be Saturday, February 23, the first qualifying date at Rosecroft Raceway for the 2013 season. The drop off location located near the paddock will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“These horsemen have been supporters of harness racing at Rosecroft and this entire region for many years. While it will take some time to regroup, we hope to see them back racing really soon,” said Rosecroft Racing Secretary Mike Wandishin.
