Rosecroft to close out highly successful Fall Meet with
15 live races, visit from Santa Claus and awards.
Saturday night December 22 will be the final night of the Fall 2012 meet but Rosecroft will close out its successful meet with the biggest overnight card of the meet in terms of purses and number of horses racing. One hundred and seventeen horses, of the one hundred twenty entered, are squaring off in fifteen races with purses over $58,300.
Seven meet and year end awards will be presented and the second race of the night is the Ralph Hayward Memorial. Twelve races will feature dime superfecta wagering and every race will have superfecta wagering.
Of particular interest to Rosecroft fans and horsemen are races thirteen and fourteen on the card. Race thirteen is a field of seven hard-hitting Maryland Preferred fillies and mares that have combined for thirty-four wins and over a quarter-million in earnings this season. The purse for this is the highest overnight purse for filly and mares this meet, $7,500, and the second highest purse of the meet.
The fourteenth race is a $10,000 Invitational for Maryland Preferred horses and this is the highest overnight purse paid this meet and in the short Rosecroft Renaissance. A strong field of five will face starter Dale Milby’s starting gate and had weather cooperated we may have seen a sub-1:50 mile here. The five have combined for earning over $220,000 this season and eighteen wins.
In addition, the John Wagner stable has been on a roll and is now only one win behind Mike Temming’s barn in the leading trainer’s race. Roger Hans, Judy Welty and Alvin Callahan complete the top five trainers this met.
Frank Milby seemingly wrapped up the leading driver title in early October, but defending leader driver Justin Vincent has launched a furious rally to claim the second spot. John Wagner, Corey Braden and William Carter complete the top five leading drivers this meet.
In other news, employees, horsemen and racing fans can’t wait for January 1st to arrive as Rosecroft will resume thoroughbred simulcasts on that day.
