Varsity Hanover doesn’t disappoint at Rosecroft
In front of a large crowd which wagered with both fists, Varsity Hanover (Justin Vincent) celebrated his return to Rosecroft Raceway and scored his seventh victory at the “Raceway by the Beltway” in a lifetime mark setting 1:55.4.
James Whalen Jr’s pride roared to the front with a quick opening eighth of a mile and proceeded to rate kindly to the half in 59.4. Once the field hit the half mile pole Vincent hit the ignition and Varsity ‘ paced a 27.4 third quarter to shake off the first over Dream Our Way. As the field turned for home Varsity ‘ left the field behind and scored by 2 ½ over the pocket-sitting Missed Opportunity (Tim Offutt), who regained the place as the field roared home. The always late charging Lislea Pat paced a huge back half but had too much to do and was easily best of the rest.
Justin Vincent gets along best with Varsity and after off the board finishes in the first two starts, Vincent and Varsity have recorded eight consecutive victories together.
Russell Foster scored two wins on the night breaking the maiden of Best Care in a sizzling 1:57.2 and the winner’s over with Restless Native in a seasonal Rosecroft mark of 1:54.1
Fan favorite Four Starz Robro was expertly handled by Chris Welty scoring in a sharp 1:56.4 mile for Robro’s thirty-eighth career victory for trainer Judy Welty. Elvis Blue Chip (Corey Braden) overcame an early break and was second best.
Chris Offutt put longshot Acardi on the lead early in the third race and stole a soft half in 59 flat, then hit the jets and charged home in 57.3 to explode the toteboard paying $81.80 for the win.
Racing returns to Rosecroft on Saturday evening March 17 with a 7:25 post time. Horsemen are reminded the box for Tuesday’s draw closes at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
