Saturday night racing at the “Raceway by the Beltway”
With the Winners Over pace having failed to fill this week some of the hard-hitting medium level trotters and pacers will share the spotlight on Saturday night at Rosecroft. First post is 6:45 p.m.
In the opener Dr. Scott Woogen, a doctor by day but aspiring harness driver at night is favored to make it three in a row with Four Starz F, a 3 year old gelded son of Credit Winner who he owns with trainer John Wagner and Syl King, Jr. He’ll be leaving from the outside post six against a talented field including the consistent Winters Lil Gigolo (owned, trained and reined by Nick Coblentz) who has hit the ticket in his last six starts. Silverado Hall (Shorty Robinson) takes a drop in class after being unable to get involved on the sloppy track last week. Doctors Commando (William Cox) gets the rail and Only Make Believe (George Polk, Jr.) are trying to gain their first wins of the year. Harvard Guy, debuts for the Jeff Lieberman barn.
Lislea Pat, trained and driven by Rosecroft’s leading driver-trainer John Wagner, goes for his third win in his last four starts, and but for interference while on a break would be going for the fourth win in a row. Lislea Pat is sharp currently and if he minds his manners will give this group all they want and more. Three shippers; The L Train (Jason Kurtz), Only in American (Donnie Russell) and Dancing Tanja (Justin Hite); add to the complexity of this race and Clifton White Jr.’s Cedar Hall Boy was reunited with Shorty Robinson last week and just missed in a big effort. McCardles Crown (Wayne Long) and Ms America (Justin Vincent) complete a well-matched field in the fourth race.
The sixth race features a couple of youngsters whose connections or recent performance has earned them a second look. Cam’s Flirt was heavily favored for Team Welty (Chris and Judy Welty) last week and didn’t like the off track. Tone Cold Eve makes her second start for trainer E. Andy Savage and showed marked improvement last week being second best to a sharp one. Michael’s Dream makes his Rosecroft debut for the sharp trainer-driver combination of James Whelan Jr. and Justin Vincent. Horsey B showed improvement with Shorty Robinson in the bike last week and seeks to continue to improve for owner-trainer William Fletcher.
In the featured ninth race, a high-level conditioned pace, Gold Like U, trained by Greg Trotto and driven by Donnie Russell, has gone two for two over the Rosecroft oval and seeks to extend the win streak after two easy wins. Dreams Are Real was an easy winner in his qualifier for driver Garrett Mosher and could give these a tough time if he’s ready for his best off the qualifier. Both Allamerican Dice (William Carter) and Tranquil Hanover (Justin Hite) drop in class and should go much better with the probable fast track. Gold Star Smokin will be the seventh starter of the night for trainer A.”Freddie” Collazo and will be driven by Justin Hite. Dee Dee King, driven by Justin Brenneman, shows a win from the rail this summer when she last drew the one hole and merits a second look based on that here.
