Varsity Hanover scores third in a row

Varsity Hanover made it three in a row for owner-trainer James Whalen, Jr. on Friday night with another wire to wire score. This week he rebuffed an early challenge for the lead from Nuclear Physicist, who made a break, and once again accelerated away from the field with a quick 28.4 third quarter. As he entered the stretch he was on cruise control for driver Justin Vincent and won by open lengths as the favorite in a final time of 1:58.3. Powerful Odds sat a three hole trip and grabbed the place money while Mane Character was placed third, while Nuclear Physicist rallied stoutly to finish third but was disqualified for interference while on his early break.

The night’s fastest mile was turned in by Justin Hite and Grab The Fortune, who sat a two hole trip off sizzling early fractions and made his escape at the top of the stretch in time to score by open lengths. Rachel rallied to grab the place and early pace-setter My Last Wiggle held on well after the 26.3, 56.2 opening half to claim the show spot.

Leading reinsman John Wagner won two races on the night and eight other drivers won a race.

First post for the Saturday evening card is 6:45 p.m.
