Posted 2006 days
Friday night’s card at Rosecroft features youngsters working their way up the class ladder and an interesting Optional Claiming Trot, which goes postward as the fourth race.
Blue Boy Hanover and UB In The Money both drilled lesser last week and return, though with claiming tags this week to headline the night’s feature. UB In The Money; owned, trained and reined by Betsy Brown; took home all the money in a sharp wire to wire score last week and returns with a claiming tag of $12,000 this week. This one will need to harness his substantial early speed to handle this crew. Blue Boy Hanover made his move from the pocket on the backside crushing less and returns for a tag of $10,000 for trainer Trevor Stafford. Long-time leading horseman Walter Callahan returns for the drive this week and Blue ‘ has shown a solid brush since returning from a freshening this summer. Game old veteran King Rova picks up driver Donnie Russell for this assignment and always has been and continues to be a major danger whenever he steps hoof on track. He starts inside the above two and given a good trip is more than capable of pulling the upset. Sherif Cunmulaj trains this one. Elvis Blue Chip (Corey Braden), Yarborough Hanover (Wayne Long) and Beautiful Legacy (Jackie Mac Leod) round out a talented group of cross-steppers.
Another interesting race is the first where James Whalen Jr’s. two year old gelding, Varsity Hanover, was visually impressive in drawing clear from a field last week. This week he gets an inside post and tries to make it two in a row. Justin Vincent has driven this one to both of his career victories and fits this one well. Royal House is still a maiden but was gigantic in defeat last week surviving an uncovered, parked the mile trip to grab the lead in the stretch last week before grudgingly settling for the place spot. This one seems to have figured it out and will take some defeating from the rail.
First post is 6:45 for the ten race card at the “Raceway by the Beltway”.
